Ecu+design+pinout+full !!install!! Guide

Keeps memory alive (adaptive maps, fault codes).

The MCU outputs low-current 5V signals, but actuators require high current or high voltage.

Automotive electrical systems are highly unstable. A standard 12V battery can drop to 6V during cranking or spike to over 40V during a load dump.

Sensitive signals (like Crank and Cam position) must be shielded to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) from high-voltage spark plug wires. ecu+design+pinout+full

Not every IC input terminal necessarily requires a pull-up or pull-down resistor. Some ICs have internal resistors, and some applications may work fine with pins left unconnected. Always check the IC's datasheet and circuit diagram.

The "pinout" is the road map of the ECU, identifying the purpose of every connector pin. A full, comprehensive pinout can be broken down into four main categories: A. Power and Ground Pins

An ECU must talk to other onboard computers, diagnostic tools, and tuning software. Keeps memory alive (adaptive maps, fault codes)

Whether you are performing an engine swap or troubleshooting a "check engine" light, having the full, accurate pinout diagram is vital for several reasons:

| Pin | Signal | Direction | Function | |-----|--------|-----------|----------| | 1 | +12V Main | Input | ECU power (via main relay) | | 2 | +12V Keep-alive | Input | Constant power for memory | | 3 | GND Power | Return | High-current ground | | 4 | GND Sensor | Return | Clean ground for sensors | | 5 | Crank Sensor+ | Input | Variable reluctance (VR) positive | | 6 | Crank Sensor- | Input | VR negative (shielded) | | 7 | TPS 5V Ref | Output | 5V sensor supply | | 8 | TPS Signal | Input | 0-5V throttle position | | 9 | Coolant Temp | Input | Analog (pull-up inside ECU) | | 10 | MAP Sensor | Input | Manifold absolute pressure | | 11 | Injector 1 | Output | Low-side drive (2A peak) | | 12 | Injector 2 | Output | Low-side drive | | 13 | Injector 3 | Output | Low-side drive | | 14 | Injector 4 | Output | Low-side drive | | 15 | Ignition 1 | Output | Logic level to external igniter | | 16 | Ignition 2 | Output | Logic level | | 17 | CAN_H | I/O | 500 kbps | | 18 | CAN_L | I/O | 500 kbps | | 19 | Check Engine LED | Output | Low-side (sink to ground) | | 20 | Diagnostic Enable | Input | Pull to ground for flash mode |

A production ECU must detect faults. This means the pinout should include: A standard 12V battery can drop to 6V

Simulates engine sensors using external software to test how the ECU reacts before plugging it into a real car.

Pull-up resistors connect the input terminal to Vcc through a resistor, maintaining a High level under normal conditions. Pull-down resistors connect the input terminal to GND through a resistor, maintaining a Low level under normal conditions.

Modern full pinouts go beyond analog/digital. For a design:
